A dog is a special type of pet. To find out just how far this animal love goes and the relationship between people and dogs on a daily basis, we carried out a qualitative survey together with Monheimer Institut. We have already introduced some insights in the first article.
We discussed the costs of this special relationship with our participants and these can be high as the participants are keen to bring up.
Starting with the purchase of the animal, as well as the acquisition of the basic equipment such as lead, dog collar or feeding bowls to vet and insurance costs – having a dog as a pet is expensive. Dog owners often attach importance to brands; especially when it concerns dog food. Only few dog owners say they don’t bother with branded foods. However, savings can be made and many respondents of our online forum admitted to waiting for special offers and then buying in bulk.
It doesn’t really matter how much their pet costs them in the long-run, dog-owners pay gladly. At the end of the day, their dog is more of a friend than an animal.
